Founded in 1929 by Richard S. Stephens, the Academy of Art University was originally named as the Academy of Advertising Art. Three generations of the Stephens family have ensured that studying artists are provided the most current knowledge by those who work in the industry – fellow artists. With San Francisco as the backdrop the school offers associate, bachelors, and master’s degrees in twenty five subjects both on campus and online.
Recently the School of Fashion from the Academy of Art University held a runway showcase on September 9, 2017 at the Skylight Clarkson Square for Fashion Week. This showcase was special where ten BFA and MFA graduates debuted five collections. The showcase was a delectable delight for the eye, and proof that fashion is something the Academy of Art University can help its students produce. The showcase included flowing hand and machine embroidery, metallic, matte, and glossy materials, and imaginative cutouts that jutted from the fabric or allowed the eye to peek into what the model was wearing underneath. This fashion show makes the 21st showcase for the university and a platform for students to demonstrate skills to fellow peers, business associates, and the world where the showcase was live-streamed.
The Academy of Art University is an accredited institutional member of National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and has received regional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. In this setting aspiring artists are transformed into professional artists and designers with a portfolio demonstrating proper instruction from industry professionals, and dedication to their craft.
Additionally, state of the art facilities use current materials and software alike. Thus, students are in pace with developing trends and technologies. Graduates reap the benefits when companies such as Google, EA, Pixar, Apple, Nike, Zynga and more come to the school looking for their next artist. The university has truly proven itself as a place for budding artists to come and learn, to develop, and to push boundaries. Artists can confidently graduate having been under the care of industry professionals who are willing to pass on their wisdom and insight.
